Paddling the Nymboida River – 3 Days, 4 Friends, and 1 Blind Dog

People visit this remote destination to fish, bushwalk, swim, camp, and in our case, for a grand ol’ paddling trip with pals.

A group of mates and I decided to hook into some sports rafts and paddle down the spectacular river, white-water paddling a 45km section to reinvigorate our connection with nature, reccie for an upcoming program, and see the disarray and flow after the Northern River floods.

Why I Renovated and Live in a 43-Year-Old Caravan

Mary has been my 12ft off-grid caravan home for the past five months. She started as a pipe dream that I wanted to live out, but finding the right caravan – small, quaint and imperfect enough for me – was the first challenge. I envisioned a life of minimalism, simplicity, adventure, and waking up in a new location each week.

The overload system looked perfect for the journey ahead, the tri-zip functionality and a frame fit designed to comfortably eliminate the  bruised hips and shoulders, finally a thing of the past.

A pretty versatile and hefty new trio of functions that I’d never experienced before in the Australian outdoor gear world – I just had to latch her onto my back!

Listening, learning and connecting in Kununurra

The town felt dreary and semi-closed from my observation, the outskirts were stunning, but I had quietly driven away from Kununurra with a lack of understanding and connectedness to the place. I couldn’t quite grasp what this town was. I found myself yet again back in Kununurra for work, with a company called Infuse Travel that facilitates student programs through education travel and service projects. During this stint, we took two high school groups out on service project initiatives. The aims were to connect students to more cultural experiences to gain awareness and a deeper understanding, to build critical thinking skills, help with engagement activities of indigenous communities and people and to expand their awareness of how different people are living in Australia.

Southwest WA explorations with Kaon

For the past year, I have been travelling solo around Australia. Just me and my little renovated 1980s retro caravan named ‘Something about Mary’. Adjusting to the seasons and vastness of Australia we headed from North WA to South WA to enjoy the scorching summer - Mary, Me and my ol’ 120 series Prado decided to hit the frog ‘n’ toad and journey into the great Southwest region. We recently upgraded parts of the Prado with some epic new Kaon gear and wanted to try out our ventures exploring some surf spots, fishing, diving, camping and hiking. And we certainly found it.

Boardwalk construction is often a reflection of detached authorities making decisions far removed from the actual experience of hiking. These constructed pathways come at a cost.
